Myron Oliver was born in Fulton, Kansas, in 1891, and at the age of two moved to Monterey, California. Oliver’s parents owned the local artist supply shop, and young Myron was introduced to many influential figures. Prior to his study at Stanford, Oliver had studied with Lester Boronda and William Merritt Chase. Following Stanford, Oliver traveled to New York for study at the Art Students League.
Shortly after his return to Monterey, Oliver abandoned oil painting to pursue fine frame and furniture making, as well as helping in his family’s business. Oliver helped found the Carmel Art Association, and served five terms as president of that organization. Myron Oliver died in Monterey in 1967.
